Abstract

Technological innovations have expanded connection possibilities and facilitated access to and production of content. As a consequence, digital social networks have become an important tool in the formation of the postmodern imagery and the diffusion of unproven information. After the Arab Spring broadcast by Twitter in the Middle East in 2011 and the Brazilian demonstrations in June 2013 driven by Facebook, it was the turn of WhatsApp to lead the mobilization of the truck drivers who stopped in Brazil in May 2018. The shutdown was fertile ground for the rumors to be spread. Rumors arise in multiple contexts and spread rapidly in sociable environments. The problem of fake news is not exclusive to the internet, what has changed is the scope and speed with which it spreads. The fake news have been concerned about the damage done to individuals and institutions, as well as building a true disinformation industry. In addition to the verisimilitude they present, fake news can achieve adherence, according to Sunstein (2010, p.7) because they ""reinforce and fit the previous convictions of those who believe in them."" On this statement we also point out that false news also sells and gives high profits. For D'Ancona (2018, p. 55), ""we consume what we have already enjoyed, and avoid the unfamiliar."" And this consumption is revealed in the clicks, shares and tanned, on the subjects offered by the algorithms, based on the traces left in the digital medium. Journalism has also been affected by the rampant dissemination of false news. This becomes even more worrying when we consider that society legitimizes these media as reliable sources of information. The objective of this article is to analyze the aesthetics of the most widespread fake news during the truckers' strike and the empowering role of online social networks. Through documentary and bibliographic research, we try to identify how these false news stories were constructed to look credible.
